The spiny softshell turtle
The Far Eastern tortoise is common in Primorye and Amur. This is a turtle of medium size, the length of the shell is up to 33 cm, but more often 15-25 cm. The shell is covered with soft skin on top. In young, the shell is round and covered from above with longitudinal rows of small tubercles, then merging into ridges, disappearing in adults.
The muzzle is extended into the proboscis. On top of the trionics is painted in a greenish-brown color with small yellow spots, and below - in a light yellow. Lives in rivers and lakes with a silty or sandy bottom, sparse underwater vegetation, wakes up in April, and from May to August, the female lays 2-3 times 20-70 or more eggs, digging them, like a swamp turtle, on a sandy shore in well warmed up dry place, but not far from water.
The eggs, like all turtles, are white, covered with a hard calcareous shell. In trionix they are rounded, about 2 cm in diameter. After 60-80 days, turtles hatch. Trionics living in the aquaterrarium need an even water temperature (20-26 ° C). Trionixes are very demanding on high ambient temperatures and strong sunlight. With a lack of heat and light, Trionics are more likely than any water turtles to become ill and die. The air temperature above the island in the aquarium should be 25-30 ° C and above. The bottom sand, which should be in the aquarium, serves as a Trionix and a life-saving refuge and the best place for an aquarium to spend time. Burrowing in the sand, the trionics “pecks” - it catches prey passing by.
Trionix rarely comes out of the water during the day, but loves to bask in the sun by sticking its face out of the water. In the aquarium, they readily eat small fish, tadpoles, mice, small frogs, bloodworms. Occasionally eat salad and cabbage. Trionixes do not like meat. Trionixes mate in April. Egg incubation occurs at a temperature of 28-30 ° C. The terms of the appearance of turtles, as in nature. In aquariums, they often contain the evil trionix that lives in the natural waters of the United States. The biology of the content of these moving turtles is about the same as that of our Trionix.
