some kinds of Canary / Crested canaries
- Gloucester. (gloster Fancy corona
By tradition, canarovars call the gloster “crown”. Hence the name of the crested birds of this breed - GLOSTER-KORONA.
The smooth-drinking gloster canary is called "consort" - which means "satellite" in English.
These names were entrenched in the canary breeders of different countries, since the Gloster canary breed was recognized as an international organization of birdwatching as early as 1925.
Gloster is considered the youngest breed among the crested and canaries. GLOSTER is the smallest of these breeds.
Gloster length - 12 cm. All colors except red are allowed.
Breeding breeds BORDER, CRESTED, COLOR COLDED, NORWICH were used to breed gloster canaries.
Breeding gloster canaries does not cause any particular difficulties. They are even used as foster parents for the offspring of other breeds.
Like other crested breeds, the glossaster should pay special attention to its tuft.
Usually a pair of these birds are exhibited - the crested and smooth-headed. Their scores are divided in the assessment, added up and divided into two
- Crested (Crested-crestbred)
One of the oldest breeds of English canaries, known since 1750.
Crested birds of this breed are called CRESTED; their smooth-headed breeding partners are called crossbred.
The crest of crested birds and eyebrows of smooth-headed birds partially overlap the eyes. We can say that of all the crested breeds, the crusaded is the most COLDY.
Crested-powerful. dense bird is 16.5 cm long.
Crestbred looks a lot like a Norwegian canary. The most distinctive feature of a crossbred from a Norwich is the “eyebrows” of the first.
These birds have hanging so-called “cock feathers” at the base of the tail, on the belly and on the wings.
The color of this breed is not specified by the standard; however, the color can affect the assessment of a single position in the sense that the individual parts of the plumage are differently colored, more or less expressively look.
CREDED canaries are prone to obesity, which reduces their ability to reproduce offspring .. Before the breeding season, feeding is given special attention. Males give very little hemp and egg mixture. Females have a lot of green fodder and germinated grain. For the maintenance of these birds, large cages (at least 1 m) with a small number of pits are needed in order for the birds to move more.
Their thick long plumage is cut around the cloaca before breeding, otherwise the eggs may not be fertilized.
The large tuft above the eyes is also partially trimmed before breeding.
Canaries of this breed are bad parents, and chicks often have to be placed under the nurse.
- Lankshire Canary ( Lancashire coppy)
The breed used to be called in the main city of the Lancashire region - the Manchester giant. Indeed, representatives of this breed are the largest domestic canaries. The length of the birds is 23 cm.
The crest of the Canary of Lancashire breed is very characteristic. In the form of a cap, he descends over the eyes and beak of a bird.
At one time this breed, which served as the ancestor of many other breeds of canaries, almost died out and was restored by the English amateurs after the Second World War.
Breeding Lankshire Canaries is very difficult and available only to experienced canar-breeders.
- Color Crested (Allemand Huppe)
This breed is known to lovers for more than 200 years, however, the quality of the tufts, their characteristic feature (tuft) was very heterogeneous and mostly low. Only after crossing this breed of birds with birds of English crested breeds with longer plumage, the quality of the tuft was improved and stabilized. The new breed was registered by SOM and got the name Allemand Huppe, which means "German Crested". Lovers often use the name "color crested". In view of the characteristic feature of the crest, the breed is classified as a decorative breed. But in assessing equal attention is paid to both the tuft and coloration.
The exterior of the color crested is not much different from the usual color canary. Therefore, the smooth-headed partners of this breed are exposed at competitions among the usual colored canaries, from which they differ in wider head and slightly more flat darkness.
