Canary breeding

In order to get offspring from canaries, you need to make a  selection of producers .

When choosing pairs, age is  taken into account  (canaries: it can be from one to four years), color (for colored canaries), and the course of the song (for singing breeds).

First of all, you should pay attention to the health of the birds, the general development of their body. They must be mobile, energetic, their plumage must be adjacent to the body.

A month before breeding, canaries should be given a little more egg feed (three to five times a week), germinated seeds of wheat, millet, and rape, do not forget about carrots. By the behavior of canaries, their readiness for reproduction can be determined: they become agitated, restlessly fly from place to place.

Males during this period sing louder and monotonous songs, and females try to collect feathers, dry blades of grass, feathers - everything that is useful for building a nest.

The female, which showed the first signs of reproduction, must be transplanted into a special cage, the so-called cage . On the same day, a male is introduced to her, who has shown readiness for reproduction.

The formed pair behaves restlessly at first (fights are possible), then it calms down and the male begins to sing. His singing is not at all like an ordinary one, he sings very loudly and during the song all the time chases the female.

After some time, the female proceeds to build a nest. At this time, there should be enough building material in the breeding area: dry, soft grass, soft sponge fibers, short strings and feathers. From this material she lays out a convenient, deep nest for laying eggs and future chicks (special containers are very convenient for this).

The female with the help of a male prepares a nest for 2--3 days, then, mainly in the morning, lays 3-5 eggs of a bluish-grayish color with dark small specks (their weight is 2-2.5 g).

The process of hatching eggs under normal conditions lasts 13-14 days. At this time in the nesting box should be a bathing room. The female loves to swim, so she moisturizes the hatched eggs, which contributes to the better development and hatching of the chicks. After the appearance of chicks, bathing clean. The Canary people born into the world have a long fluff, weighing 1.5–1.8 g; after 2--3 hours the female begins to feed them.

On the 4--5th day, the eye slits open in the chicks, and on the 9-10th day, the eyes are completely rounded, and the chicks squeak when feeding. At this time (8-10 days) chicks in clubs usually ring. On the 18-21st day, they fly out of the nest and gradually begin to feed on their own. After 28--30 days, they are deposited from their parents in another cage-cage, and after another 10-12 days they are transferred to a large aviary or to a flying cage.

Soon the female starts the second nesting. After the 2nd - 3rd nest (although non-rooted females can produce up to 5-6 broods per year) the breeding season in adult canaries ends and they begin to molt. During this period, they need to be particularly well fed: to give more vitamins, carrots and other greens.
