 How canaries got to Russia

In Russia, canaries appeared only about 300 years after their discovery. And it is not surprising: a rather severe climate could not but create certain problems in the acclimatization of a tender tropical bird. However, as we see, this problem was successfully solved.

In 1850, literature on canaries, their content and breeding, had already appeared, and canary breeding began to actively develop in Russia.

Canaries have become particularly popular among the working population: merchants, artisans, workers and peasants.

In Nizhny Novgorod, Tula, Moscow and many other provinces, whole villages and counties were engaged in canary fishing ...

Using the already rich European experience of keeping songbirds by that time, and successfully complementing it with their own, Russian lovers skillfully instilled with their pet the most euphonious tribes of the best singers of their homeland: buntings, titmouses, waders ...

However, no matter what, the Russian canary is still alive and it still pleases and fascinates us with its singing.

In December, the Moscow Canary Fans Club will hold the anniversary, 60th annual canary singing contest of singing chorus, where residents of not only Moscow but also other cities and the near abroad will arrive with their pets.

Why did the canary manage to attract such attention and love among the population? And everything is very simple.

The canary is considered to be a granivorous bird , not very whimsical in keeping and breeding and is easy to learn. What can not be said about many wild songbirds. And what a variety of colors and breeds! And yellow, and red, and green and ...
