The approximate age of the turtles will be determined by counting the grooves on one flake of the upper part of the shell (carapace). Count how many grooves on the skin flakes - this will be the approximate age of the turtle. To be more precise, you can count a few flakes, and then find the average value.
The exact age of the tortoise cannot be determined by the annual rings on its shell. Observations of young turtles showed that these rings appear when the turtle is not even a year old. If the tortoise’s growth rate is artificially accelerated with the help of a high protein content in the feed, its shell can become deformed, becoming smooth from a smooth one. Turtles grow most of their lives, becoming adults in their eighth year - this applies to European species. In very old specimens, the carapace becomes especially smooth, as in newborns, and the annual rings turn pale.
