Females often lay eggs in captivity. Unfortunately, turtles, like chickens, also carry unfertilized (fat) eggs. And if your pet, living in your solitude, laid eggs, then there is no sense in incubating them.

Answers To Your Most Burning Questions

Other than disappointment, you will have nothing. If you have several turtles, and you are sure that there are both males and females in the “herd,” let alone mating, it makes sense to start incubating the laid eggs.

Turtles mate all year round, but more often - from February to May. Females lay eggs from April to September on the shore.

Before digging a hole, the mother liberally moistens the sand with liquid from the cloacal bubbles. Pulling out a nest with its hind legs, it lays from 5 to 22 eggs.

The courtship of the red-eared turtles looks very interesting. The male swims in front of his beloved tail forward, tickling her cheeks with his long claws.

To simulate the shore, a sand cuvette is placed in a terrarium (or aquarium) above the water. So that the turtles could crawl out onto the sandy “beach”, a “gangway” is attached to the side. In the simplest case, it can be a piece of plexiglass or other plastic with holes drilled in it so that the animal crawling out of the water can cling to the "gangway" claws.
If there is no shore, the turtle can lay eggs directly in the water. In this case, they must be immediately removed from the water.
