The world's oldest sea turtle fossil shows

Turtles are living fossils of our planet. Even evolution is not able to cope with them: over the past 200 million years, they have practically not changed. They are distinguished by fantastic survivability (with a head torn to shreds, a turtle can live and move for dozens of days!). And one experimental specimen with a removed brain lived for six months. They are centenarians. 150 years is the normal age for a land tortoise. It happens that they live for 200 years or more.

The famous cayman turtles are very biting: they grab snakes, birds on the shore and in the water, there were cases when they bathed their fingers in swimming people. Another interesting feature of them: they are not afraid of the cold, they can crawl on ice. Also noteworthy is her cousin, the vulture tortoise, which catches fish on the "worm": it hides at the bottom, opens its mouth and periodically protrudes a bright red outgrowth on the "back" of the tongue, very similar to a wriggling worm.

On the streets of London you can see posters with the image of a turtle and a hare, which warn pedestrians: "Do not jump like a hare, and do not crawl like a turtle." But on the islands of Fiji, the turtle is considered a symbol of speed and higher navigational abilities. She is depicted on the official letterhead of the maritime department. Only it is not land, but sea turtles. Ridley refers to them. It is up to 80 centimeters long and feeds on both plant and animal food. The temper is pretty fierce. When it is caught from the water, ridley is a lot of trouble: it bites oars and hands, rushes at people.
